Entry requirements

12 month MSc: A 2:2 honours degree, or international equivalent, in a mechanical or mechanical related (eg automotive, aeronautical, design) engineering, maths, or physics discipline. 24 month MSc: A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in a mechanical or mechanical related (eg automotive, aeronautical, design) engineering, maths, or physics discipline. We will also consider your application on an individual basis if you have lower or non-standard qualifications and/ or relevant experience. Applicants may be required to attend for interview if practical.

Course content

The Low Carbon Transport Engineering MSc develops your knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering as well as materials and manufacturing engineering. You have the opportunity to undertake in-depth studies through your research projects.
This one year course is intended for honours graduates (or an international equivalent) in mechanical or mechanical-related engineering (eg automotive, aeronautical or design), maths, physics or a related discipline.
A two year MSc is also available for non-native speakers of English that includes a Preliminary Year.
The taught part of the course consists of major engineering themes such as:
  • energy sources and storage
  • manufacturing
  • vehicle drives and dynamics
  • computational methods
  • engineering software
Your project is chosen from an extensive range of subjects. Project work can range from fundamental studies in areas of basic engineering science to practical design, make and test investigations.

Information for international students

12 month MSc: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills) 24 month MSc: IELTS 6.0 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills) Or you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English Language course. You may need an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate.
