Entry requirements

Normally candidates will be expected to have a Bachelor degree at 2.2 classification or above in a sport-related subject. Applications are also encouraged from people with other undergraduate subject backgrounds who are passionate about sport, have relevant experience and may be seeking a change in career.

Course content

Sport marketing is increasingly a core competence required by professionals operating in the sports industry. This programme will help you to develop the skill-set and knowledge base required by sport marketers. As the sport market continues to evolve, you will be challenged to think creatively and critically about the unique nature and environment of sport. You will develop your ability to think strategically and to apply the principles of sport marketing to situations where increasing participation, leveraging investment into sport or encouraging the sale of sport products and services are required. The programme facilitates engagement with an international sport event organisation through an optional residential visit.

The programme presents an interactive learning environment through the use of case study material, live projects and close collaboration with sports practitioners. On-line resources will support material presented in conventional lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. The mix of returning students and sport practitioners from, literally, all corners of the world creates a stimulating, friendly and supportive environment for study.

All assessments are applied to the practice of sport marketing and examples of these include case studies, real life projects, plans, reports and presentations.

You will enhance your employment prospects in the sport industry as the programme is geared towards learning outcomes with a professional vocational relevance. Recent graduates work around the world in sport marketing, and associated positions across the commercial, public and voluntary sectors in sports organisations such as BOCOG, FIFA, the RFU and Adidas.

Information for international students

Students whose first language is not English must have an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum score in each component of 5.5. Pearson Academic score of 62 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 51.
