Course content

The Education Leadership in Learning (Teach First) MA is specifically for applicants who have completed the Teach First PGDE. This 60-credit course will give you the opportunity to continue your professional development.

We will focus on improving your substantive knowledge in order to inform and develop a wide range of educational sectors. This will include school, further and higher education.

You will use research and critical enquiry to further extend, develop and enhance your ability to evaluate and judge the underlying assumptions surrounding educational policy and practice.

You will develop a critical understanding of the inter-relationships between research, policy and practice and their manifestations in different settings and contexts.

You will develop skills in collaborative working, discipline-specific creativity and project management. You will be encouraged to examine, compare and contrast different world views. You will examine key education theories and concepts, and enrich your understanding of these through critical discussion with your peers, colleagues and lecturers.

Throughout the course you will be supported by your guidance tutor, the programme leader, and your module tutors. You will receive extra support and supervision during your dissertation project, when we will match you with a tutor who specialises in your area of interest. This will allow you to draw on their relevant knowledge and expertise.

The Education Leadership in Learning MA will develop your critical reflective abilities, with a view of empowering you to become entrepreneurial in relation to your ongoing career within your chosen sector. This may be further education, higher education, schools or training organisations.

Designed to cater for a wide range of professionals in education, this programme will offer you a great launch pad for the next step in your career. The flexibility to choose from such a wide variety of modules mean you can prepare for the exact role you want.

You will also be equipped with the ability to challenge your personal and professional development, applying planning tools and career advice through the UseMYAbility website.
