Entry requirements

All entrants to this postgraduate certificate must hold a bachelors degree awarded by a recognised UK university, or equivalent. If you hold a qualification that you believe is an equivalent level to a UK honours degree you should contact us . The Open University Business School Masters Programme Committee is responsible for judging whether applicants’ qualifications meet the requirements for admission. Your spoken and written English must be of an adequate standard for postgraduate study. If English is not your first language, we recommend that you will need a minimum score of 6.5 under the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Please see their website for details.

Course content

If you're at the start of your a HR career in HR, or aspire to enter the HR profession, or are in a line management position this qualification could be what you're looking for. It combines an exploration of HR management strategies with opportunities to build skills essential for practitioners. You will develop your understanding of the role of the HR professional, the nature of professionalism and approaches to addressing ethical dilemmas. Throughout your studies, you will be encouraged to explore the challenges facing a rapidly changing profession in a global economy, and consider the relevance of theory to practice in a variety of geographical and sectoral contexts. You will also develop the skills and understanding needed to address business and change management issues and to work at a strategic level.'

You will need a computer with internet access to study for this qualification. For most OU qualifications a Microsoft Windows (new since 2007), Apple Mac (OS X 10.6 or later) or Linux computer should be adequate. However, some qualifications require more specific IT equipment, in which case you will need additional software to use an Apple Mac or Linux computer. A detailed technical specification for your modules will be made available when you register.
