Course content

The Statistics Group is housed in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (the last time statistics was assessed separately from mathematics) was lauded as one of the top 20 statistics research groups in the UK. Research interests include methodological development and applications of statistics in all areas, including medicine, ecology, energy, environment, social science, the behavioural sciences, traffic networks and archaeology.

Potential research projects

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for one of the research projects listed on the School of Mathematics and Statistics’ PhD recruitment page. Projects in Statistics are likely to focus on the following themes:

  • Bayesian statistics
  • Distributionology
  • Medical statistics
  • Multivariate statistics.
