Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of three years’ experience in a managerial, professional or technical role. so that you have a practical business base on which to build your MBA learning. Usually this means that you are at least 25 years old as it is unusual (but not impossible) to be able to satisfy the ‘experience’ requirement under this age. In addition you will need to hold an honours degree awarded by a recognised UK University, or equivalent. Various higher education and professional qualifications are considered equivalent to an honours degree. Please contact us if you hold a qualification that you believe is an equivalent level to a UK honours degree to ensure is meets the requirements for admission.

Course content

Students must be employed by the NHS (or an organisation which supports the NHS) and have completed,'Leading in healthcare'(B718). Please note the MBA in Healthcare Leadership (F72) is now closed and'module B718'is no longer open for new registrations.' This internationally-recognised MBA is designed for individuals aspiring to senior management positions in healthcare. The emphasis for your learning is directly rooted in management practice. You will focus on strategic analysis, interdisciplinary skills, intellectual stimulation and independent judgement - building on a solid foundation of core disciplines, including human resource management, organisational behaviour, accounting and finance, marketing and operations. You will learn to analyse, synthesise and evaluate a wide range of situations within the broad framework of organisations, their external context and internal management. Among these you will look at economic, environmental, social and technological change issues, corporate governance, markets and customers, managing resources and operations, financing organisations, management and development of people, developing information technologies for application in business and management within a global knowledge-based economy, and development of appropriate business policies and strategies within a changing context to meet stakeholder interests.

You will need a computer with internet access to study for this qualification. For most OU qualifications a Microsoft Windows (new since 2007), Apple Mac (OS X 10.6 or later) or Linux computer should be adequate. However, some qualifications require more specific IT equipment, in which case you will need additional software to use an Apple Mac or Linux computer. A detailed technical specification for your modules will be made available when you register. Please note, technical specifications do change over time to match computer developments and the way we teach.
