Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement for MPhil or MPhil with the intention of transferring to a PhD (the route which most of our doctoral candidates take) is a first-class or upper second-class UK honours degree or equivalent. Applications also welcomed from those holding qualifications other than the above and will be considered on their merits and in relation to the nature and scope of the work proposed. The normal entry requirement for the degree of PhD is a recent master's degree in a discipline which is appropriate to the proposed research and which has included research training and a research project.

The International Assessment Group is a designated EC Europa Centre of Excellence in Environmental Impact Assessment, which brings together one of the largest teams of expertise in this field worldwide.

Our research activity was independently assessed as being of 'international standing' in the 2001 Higher Education Funding Council for England Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) amongst UK universities.

Our clients include, amongst others, the European Commission, UK government/agencies, local government and the commercial sector.

Information for international students

For applicants who do not have English as their first language, a: British O level, GCSE (grade A, B or C) in English Language; a TOEFL score of 650 or above (written test); or a British Council ELTS band 6 or 7 is necessary.
