Course content

The MA programmes in Languages provide students with an opportunity to develop an advanced knowledge of French, Irish, Spanish or Portuguese, and to acquire research skills which will enhance their careers and/or provide a foundation for PhD study. The course structure enables students to pursue their own interests across a wide range of fields including literary and cultural studies, language, linguistics, visual studies, history, postcolonialism, gender studies and history of ideas.

Current pathways include:
French Studies
Modern French Studies: Culture and Memory
French and Linguistics
Irish and Celtic Studies
Hispanic Studies
Spanish: Image and Text

The School is currently developing a new flexible MA Languages which will enable students to follow a pathway in a particular field and/or language, and also to construct comparative or interdisciplinary pathways.
