Course content

Our Master’s programme in International and European Law is primarily designed for students who wish to develop their understanding and knowledge of European Union law with the intent of pursuing a legal career with a strong international orientation. This Master's programme offers you a thorough education in European law, with a particular focus on substantive law. You have the opportunity to create your own programme that could include competition law, company law, immigration law, external relations law, judicial protection, human rights law, insolvency law and public international law.

This programme is not just aimed at students from EU member states. All nations in the world trade and interact with the EU, which has rules and regulations that have to be complied with. Law students from all over the world will therefore benefit from this Master’s programme. You’ll obtain a sound basis for an international legal career as a European law expert.

Specialisations in the Master's in International and European Law

The Master's programme at Radboud University Nijmegen is unique in that it not only provides a thorough understanding of European law in general, but also offers further specialisation. After completing the compulsory courses you can specialise in one of four tracks:

Develop an elaborate understanding of European and international law including in-depth knowledge on the external dimension of EU law and the rules that govern the European Union’s international relations.

Develop a strong understanding of all aspects of business law and the legal workings of the EU in order to deal with legal issues when doing business in or trading with the European Union.

Understand how international and European legal instruments influence the position and mobility of citizens in the EU and how the major international documents and courts protect the rights of individuals.

Develop a broad perspective on the role of the EU on the global scene. The specialisation has been specifically designed for students that want to extend their knowledge of European Law, but are also interested in studying the international relations of the European Union from other academic perspectives.
