Why choose this course?

1. The MA/MFA International Theatre Practice and Performance aims to inspire the theatre and performance artists of tomorrow and appeal to those committed to the creation of their own work – whether as actors, directors or writers for the stage. The journey of the programme covers all three areas.

2. The programme is rigorous, intensive, comprehensive and practical, integrating a deep curiosity for life with a passion for theatre and performance. Students will undertake a profound practical investigation into contemporary performance, directing and writing, and their relationship to making new theatre and performance creation. In doing so this opens up the space for the development of innovative new practice and knowledge as well as creating original fusions between cutting edge technologies, current scientific knowledge and global social and political movements through the medium of performance and theatre.

3. The MFA programme offers a unique global degree across three continents:

  • Year one of the MFA takes place at Rose Bruford College in London, UK.
  • The second year takes place at National Theater Institute at Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Connecticut, USA.
  • The third year begins with three months with NTI at Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia and then returns to London for making and performing of the final production in London.

4. Students will draw on the benefits and experience of these three leading international drama schools with renowned reputation for delivering high-quality vocational theatre training. The programme uniquely integrates the British, American and Russian approaches to theatre training.

5. The 13 month MA is taught for one semester in Rose Bruford College in London, one semester at the National Theater Institute in Connecticut and a final Independent Research project.

6. The benefits of the programme are self-evident and enticing as every student will graduate with a solid understanding of how theatre and performance functions on both sides of the Atlantic. Students on this course will not just be internationally-focused, highly motivated and self-reflective, but also to be self-sustaining in their approach to theatre making, productions and resources, taking charge of their own creative destiny and shaping theatre, arts and culture of the future.
