The requirements for entry to the MMus Programme are: A recognised Bachelor degree [or a recognised equivalent qualification] by 1st September before enrolment, to allow matriculation onto the programme. If English is not your first language, the UK Home Office requires an overall score of at least IELTS 5.5 or Pearson 51, and also each individual element of the test (reading, writing, listening, speaking) must have score no lower than IELTS 5.5 or Pearson 51.
Concert Project, Performance and Research
Months of entry
The Master of Music in Performance is built on the core of our MA programme (which is the standard postgraduate programme for all performers with an undergraduate degree or a recognised equivalent). In addition to the core elements of the MA (which are taken in full) students complete either a Concert Project or Research Project. Composers may choose either option during their programme of study. Performers select a pathway at entry leading to either the MMus (Concert Project) or MMus in Performance and Research (Research Project). The Project work is supported by a team of specialists and provides an opportunity for students to enhance their creative work through practically-oriented academic study and practice-led research. The Research Project is specifically designed for students who may wish to prepare applications for doctoral study, although students on the Concert Project pathway have also gone on to doctoral study.
The MMus is normally taken over two years although an intensive one year option is available subject to satisfactory assessment at audition and interview.
Fees and funding
The Academy distributes significant amounts of funding each year to support students from the UK, the EU and internationally. We award bursaries to support students in financial need, and award scholarships to students based on merit following students’ live auditions. The Academy also distributes funding to support students who find themselves in circumstances of extreme financial hardship.
