The requirements for entry to the MA Programme are: A recognised Bachelor degree [or a recognised equivalent qualification] by 1st September before enrolment, to allow matriculation onto the programme. If English is not your first language, the UK Home Office requires an overall score of at least IELTS 5.5 or Pearson 51, and also each individual element of the test (reading, writing, listening, speaking) must have score no lower than IELTS 5.5 or Pearson 51.
Months of entry
The Master of Arts in Performance is the standard postgraduate programme for performers with an undergraduate degree or a recognised equivalent. The MA, an award of the University of London, focuses on professional development; it is designed to allow maximum flexibility for students to concentrate upon the range of activities offered within their faculty, and to develop their own performance initiatives.
Each principal study department has its own set of requirements that are designed to help students prepare for the profession. In addition to the final assessment requirements all students are involved in a wide range of faculty activities throughout the programme, including individual lessons, chamber music, ensembles, orchestras, performance classes, masterclasses and external projects/commissions.
The Master of Arts is normally a two year programme, although a one year intensive programme is also available. Entry to the one year programme is assessed at audition and interview.
Fees and funding
The Academy distributes significant amounts of funding each year to support students from the UK, the EU and internationally. We award bursaries to support students in financial need, and award scholarships to students based on merit following students’ live auditions. The Academy also distributes funding to support students who find themselves in circumstances of extreme financial hardship.
