Entry requirements

You must be eligible for (and must pay and organise yourself) Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Applicants must be an MRCVS by the date the internship starts, and ideally by the date of application and interview. A minimum of twelve months experience as a qualified veterinary surgeon in small animal practice in the UK is desirable.

Exceptional new graduates will be considered, though grades and references must indicate they you are likely to graduate, and you must have received confirmation of passing your finals in good time prior to start date of the programme.

Course content

The RVC Clinical Training Internship is a world-renowned rotating internship programme for veterinary surgeons. This internship is designed for a qualified veterinary graduate who wishes to gain more experience with exotic species.

The internship programme lasts one year and is particularly suitable if you are a recent graduate and wish to apply for a position in exotics practice or wish to pursue specialist training in future i.e. a three year Residency. The internship is coupled with a post graduate diploma in Veterinary Clinical Practice (PGDipVCP) and the successful applicant will be automatically enrolled in the course. The intern will be based at the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital - the RVC's teaching hospital at the Camden campus, London.

Information for international students

You must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing. If English is not your first language you must take an IELTS test. We require 7.5 in IELTS with no element below 7.0.

Fees and funding

As a Clinical Training Intern your academic fees will be paid by the department that you are working in.

You will also receive a tax-free stipend to cover your living expenses which will be paid monthly.
