Entry requirements

All applicants need GCSE mathematics and English language at grade C or above or equivalent*. We will consider applicants who are in the process of obtaining the relevant GCSEs. You must hold an honours degree (normally 2.2 or above) or equivalent which includes substantial elements of food or design and technology study. We may also consider applicants with an unrelated degree who have a sound food background in employment and have a GCSE or A level in food technology. *GCSE Maths and English equivalents:- •12 Level 2 credits from an Access course •equivalency test from http://www.equivalencytesting.co.uk/ You are encouraged to gain experience of schools through direct observation of teaching and learning and/or by working with young people in food or design and technology-related or other educational activities Download our application experience guidelines for more information about experience requirements and interview advice for this course. As you will be working with children, you will be required to complete a declaration of criminal convictions and health check forms. You must also successfully complete pre-entry tests in numeracy and literacy as designated by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. Course content

Gain qualified teacher status (QTS) as a teacher of food technology with experience teaching Key Stages 3 to 5. Through study and teaching placements, you develop the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm needed to teach pupils with a range of abilities in both secondary school and college settings.
