Entry requirements

This course has been designed for coaches who have substantial experience in an advanced sport coaching professional context and can demonstrate a desire to further develop as a critically-reflective, autonomous practitioner. The course is selective and welcomes applications from coaches who are graduates with a 2.1 or above. If you don't have a degree, we will consider you if you can evidence a minimum of five years' experience of working in a performance coaching environment. A NGB approved level three coaching qualification or UKCC level three coach or international equivalent coaching qualification. Hold recognised coaching licence or membership of a recognised sport coaching association or membership of a recognised international sport coaching federation. Where candidates lack experience, evidence of continual professional development in coaching or equivalent levels of study in coaching will be sought for example, UK Sport, Sports Coach UK performance workshops. You need to attend an interview to determine your suitability to study at masters level. Non-native English speakers need to be proficient in English, typically shown by an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which enables you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Course content

Study at the cutting edge of sports coaching and develop your ability to apply advanced sport coaching principles and techniques to further your coaching practice. This course is taught by the Academy of Sport and Physical Activity at Sheffield Hallam and uses experts from the sport science and sport coaching industry. If you successfully gain the postgraduate diploma you then have the option to progress to a full MSc.
