Course content
In light of the growing need for specialists in architectural project management to lead the design and construction stage effectively, Solent’s new, forward-thinking architectural project management master’s degree is designed to produce graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to manage both the design and construction stages of complex buildings, while dealing effectively with the technological challenges in the building industry.
An architectural project manager ensures projects are designed and built on time and to budget while protecting the integrity of the design and ensuring full compliance with regulations and sustainability standards and benchmarks. Using current knowledge in project management theory and practice, this course aims to produce these specialist managers equipped with the vision and skills to shape the future of the construction industry in the UK and internationally.
During your studies you’ll apply the same tools and techniques used by the construction industry and learn the most up-to-date procurement routes to gain the skills to be able to deal with risks arising from liabilities of contracting parties. The programme will help you demonstrate a good understanding of Building Information Management (BIM), and you’ll employ advanced design techniques coupled with knowledge of project management at both a technical and strategic level to produce high-quality designs that meet the industry’s environmental requirements.
Graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to rethink design processes using value management principles. The course also places great emphasis on sustainable design, and you’ll use the internationally recognised environmental and sustainability assessment methods BREEAM and LEED for planning projects, buildings and infrastructure.
The BRE Academy recognises the high level of real-world teaching at Solent. This means students on this course will be eligible to be fast-tracked to take the BREEAM AP qualification, and at a reduced fee. The qualifying period of three years’ work experience will also be waived.
