Months of entry
This pathway to an MTh is in-service training for Baptist ministers, ministers from other denominations and other people in Christian service. This programme has raised the standards of professional practice in Christian ministry and our graduates continue to demonstrate that learning and development are constant features of ministerial practice. They are now validated by the University of Manchester.
Part One comprises three 30-credit units plus two 15-credit units; Part Two is a dissertation of 15,000 words. Each unit is assessed by an essay, sermon or project and takes four to eight months to complete, enabling you to complete Part One in 16 months to three years. The dissertation normally takes six to nine months, so that the minimum time you need to complete the course is two years. The maximum time allowed to complete the Master of Theology degree is five years.
The pathway is offered as supported distance learning, which means that you will learn primarily in your own location. Each unit is introduced by a short residential period at Spurgeon’s, and specially designed online learning materials are provided. The Spurgeon’s Online Learning website provides a wealth of materials for use while students are working through the units at home. The Director of In-service training and the unit tutors are only an email or phone call away.
