Entry requirements

Entrance Requirements Candidates must submit the following items with their application for admission: •Evidence of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a cumulative overall undergraduate average of at least B (3.0/4.0) •Evidence of at least 24 credit hours of undergraduate preparation in history with an overall average of 3.0; students who lack this preparation may fulfill the requirement by taking undergraduate courses approved by the chair of graduate history •Two letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s academic quality •A personal statement detailing the student’s professional goals and personal experience

Course content

Students in the program enjoy survey and seminar-style classes that build a broad knowledge of history’s main currents along with an opportunity to specialize in an area of concentration. Students gain proficiency in research, written and oral communication, decisionmaking and critical thinking.

To fulfill degree requirements, students take a minimum of 33 credits in graduate history with a minimum of 18 credits in an area of concentration:

  • U.S. History
  • European History
  • World History
  • Gender History
