MPhil - You should hold or expect to achieve a minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1), or equivalent, in a related subject.

PhD - You should hold a minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1), or equivalent, and you should hold or expect to achieve a postgraduate Master’s degree in a related subject.

Course content

The PhD is a research degree pursued over three years full-time or six years part-time. Students undertake original research on a particular topic related to the languages, literature, philosophy, and culture of the Classical world, from Homer to the later Roman Empire, and the reception of the ancient world in modern culture.

The MPhil is a research degree pursued over two years full-time or four years part-time. Students undertake original research on a particular topic related to the languages, literature, philosophy, and culture of the Classical world, from Homer to the later Roman Empire, and the reception of the ancient world in modern culture.
