Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have one of the following: an honours degree, first or second class, in an appropriate creative subject; or equivalent qualifications, for example applicants with appropriate professional experience. Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of their creative work as part of the admissions process. In addition, international students will require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

What you study

It is the job of a concept artist to interpret ideas visually and create visual designs for characters, objects and environments.

The programme provides you with the opportunity to develop the techniques and methods necessary to approach this subject and create effective and clearly focused visual solutions.

It emphasises the importance of strong drawing skills as well as the ability to interpret ideas in a creative and innovative way. Visual storytelling is also explored through storyboarding and sequential art.

This programme offers the opportunity to investigate the extensive field of concept art and develop a range of visual approaches appropriate to this exciting subject.

How you learn

You are required to produce project-based work which is supported with seminars which promote discussion and critique of your work. Formative feedback is strongly emphasised and is given by both peers and tutors throughout your study.

How you are assessed

Assessment is by in-course assessment work produced in practical sessions and in your own time. It takes the form of a portfolio of artwork produced digitally or using traditional methods demonstrating a range of visual approaches to a theme.
Career opportunities

Graduates from this course would be suitable for careers as a concept artist working for a range of creative industries, especially in computer games and animation.
