About The London Institute of Banking & Finance

About The London Institute of Banking and Finance

We exist for a very simple reason – to advance banking and finance by providing outstanding education and thinking, tailored to the needs of business, individuals, and society. And because we’ve been at the heart of the sector since 1879, we create connections and build partnerships between people and business. Our learning is based on contemporary life rather than textbook theory.

The MSc programme should be seen by those aspiring to a career in financial services as their first choice providing anyone seeking higher office, both now and in the future, with the knowledge and confidence to undertake a more senior role, potentially earlier in their career. The achievement of an MSc will demonstrate to those in and outside of the industry your commitment, the fact that you remain a serious contender and, more importantly, are someone to be listened to and valued.

The programme

The part-time MSc in Banking Practice and Management is a specialised postgraduate qualification for aspiring senior managers in the financial services sector. Designed in collaboration with the industry, the MSc covers all topics essential for a successful leadership career in today’s fast-moving and competitive banking arena.

With the busy banking professional in mind, this programme is delivered entirely online giving you flexibility in terms of where and how you study, enabling you to combine your personal commitments and the demands of a financial services management career with study towards the MSc.

Progress through the programme in three stages, each of which leads to the award of a recognised postgraduate qualification in its own right.

The programme will support you to develop the necessary analytical tools to evaluate contemporary industry issues and demonstrate key strategic management skills which you will be able to use immediately in your work. By covering topics of most critical importance and relevance to the banking sector, you will be able to apply your knowledge to new, complex and unpredictable circumstances, thereby differentiating yourself from your peers.

The course offers a diverse range of modules from risk and regulation to channel strategy that, whilst differing in their content, are highly complementary. I have touched on areas of banking and finance that I may never have been exposed to in my job, and am certain I have amassed knowledge that would have taken years to gain otherwise.

You will be supported by a programme team comprising a mix of highly experienced, senior industry practitioners and traditional academics with expertise in the world of banking and financial services.

Online webinars take place at regular intervals throughout each term, these “live” sessions ensure that you never feel too distant from either us or your peer group.

Exclusive videos of interviews and presentations with speakers from both the financial services industry and academia are offered to you exclusively through the course website, thereby enabling you to gain valuable insights into today's banking sector.

Students join as a group at one single entry point each year and progress through the programme as a distinct cohort, providing increased opportunities for peer interaction, team-building.

Having a small cohort of students allowed for the lecturers and students to get to know each other as well, and this improved the experience for everyone. I cannot praise the team more for the support provided within the course, and this has definitely been reflected in my overall classification.
