Entry requirements

All applicants will be required to provide evidence of a minimum Lower-Second Class Honours primary degree, or the overseas equivalent in an appropriate subject from a recognised institution. It is recommended that applicants for MPhil also possess a Masters qualification in a relevant subject. Postgraduates without a previous Masters degree can register initially for an MPhil and then seek to transfer to the PhD programme after one year. Evidence of an MPhil or Masters degree from a recognised institution in an associated subject is also required for entry to PhD.

Course content

A Research Methods unit extends from October to March and you must be successful in the formal written examination in order to proceed with the programme. If progress is satisfactory, it is possible to transfer from an MPhil to a PhD after the equivalent of one year of full-time study. You are allocated a supervisor (providing close support for the research and completion of the thesis) and an advisor (available to discuss specific aspects of the research). A structured plan of meetings and reports to ensures satisfactory progress.The programme is closely monitored by the Dental School Graduate Programme committee.

Information for international students

Students whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575 paper based or 230 computer based.
