Course content

Philosophy of Humanity and Culture is an English-taught track in which you focus in detail on modern European philosophical traditions.

You study classics of philosophy and you learn what it means not to stop asking questions. Is there such a thing as the ‘essence’ or ‘nature’ of Man, or has human existence always been determined by cultural contexts? What is ‘identity’ and how does art contribute to our experience of humanity or to understanding our existence? Because you learn to throw new light on fundamental questions, you can make valuable contributions to a better understanding of humans, of culture and of life itself.

Your lecturers are nationally and internationally renowned scholars who will introduce you to the field of ritual studies on the basis of their own research. They will present to you both the state of the art in ritual studies as well as the most recent developments in their various disciplines.

The MA in Ritual in Society offers you a unique, multidisciplinary program with a focus on ritual dynamics in contemporary Europe with regular forays into the global context.
