In addition to acceptance into Transitions Dance Company (through audition), you will normally have successfully completed a UK undergraduate degree in an appropriate or related subject; or hold an overseas award of equivalent standard (eg USA degree - GPA 3.00 or above). English Language competency requirements also apply.
Months of entry
A double achievement: the rigorous challenges of a real life dance company and the demands of an MA.
Become the best dancer you can be and develop the advanced skills you need to work in today's professional arts environment. Trinity Laban's Transitions was the world's first graduate dance company and it has since acquired an outstanding reputation for technical excellence and originality; it offers you a bridge to the professional world while you study for a highly respected Masters. Your critical reflections and dissertation are embedded within the programme so that you achieve your MA within 13 months.
Why choose the MA Dance Performance?
- Join a professional dance company, touring nationally and internationally
- Perform in three original new works over the year created by distinctly different choreographers, giving you three very different creative processes
- Reflect and contextualise your practice in the Masters
- Benefit from the challenge, influence and networking of professional active dance artists as well as excellent teaching staff at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance
- Substantial one-to-one tutorial time with Artistic Director David Waring
- The dance theatre at Trinity Laban is one of the largest dance venues in London
Some choreographers choose to commission scores for pieces from Trinity Laban music students, creating synergistic experiences such as a live string quartet accompanying the performance. Transitions is constantly evolving to reflect changes in the dance scene, ensuring alumni are quickly employed.
Please note: you need to be accepted into the Transitions Dance Company as a prerequisite to applying for this Masters. Preliminary auditions take place over the period of a whole day to ensure we receive a well-rounded impression of each applicant's skills and potential.
Information for international students
Students from over 60 countries currently study at Trinity Laban. Our worldwide reputation is founded on the success of our students and we are proud to play a vital part in developing our international community.
We want our international students to enjoy their time at Trinity Laban and make the most of the academic, personal and social opportunities available here. Living away from home can be a big change and adapting to a different country can be a little confusing at times. We are here to help you if you have questions or come across any difficulties while you are with us, and ensure you can access the full range of student support available.
Our thriving Students’ Union will help you meet people from all over the world, make life-long friends and experience life in London, considered by many to be the cultural capital of the world.
Candidates will need to provide evidence of English language ability. Free English language support classes are provided for students whose first language is not English and for students with a learning disability (e.g. dyslexia).
Once enrolled on one of our programmes, you can access support from your English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Tutor. Depending on the programme, this is through timetabled classes or one-to-one tutorials. Draft-checking of written assignments is available, as is help in any area where your level of English may be causing you problems. Support is available for all programmes (except for the Teaching Musician programme and other courses within the Learning and Participation department).
Trinity Laban holds various auditions in Asia, North America and cities throughout Europe. They are designed to give you an insight into what we expect from our students, and to find out more about the programmes we offer at our award-winning facilities in London. Find out more on the Auditions section of our website.
Fees and funding
Postgraduate students pay tuition fees annually to cover the costs of studying at Trinity Laban. These vary from programme to programme and depend on whether you are a UK/EU or international student.
The government has announced that Student Loans of up to £10,000 are available for Masters programmes for Sept 2017 entry. Those loans have to be paid back after the end of your course, once you are earning over £21,000. You can find more information on the Student Loans Company website and check terms and eligibility.
If you are ineligible for this loan or it does not cover your living costs, you can also apply for a Career Development Loan from a bank. Repayment starts one month after the end of your course, with no interest during your studies. Interest will accrue after your course and repayment rates will vary according to your loan. Check terms and eligibility.
There are alternative ways to fund your studies, including:
- other loans
