The School Direct Programme (Salaried) is an employment-based route into teaching at both primary and secondary levels. Participating schools, or clusters of schools that join together, are allocated a set number of student-teacher places which can be applied for. Students will earn a salary while they train.
Founded in 1902, as a teacher training college in London, the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) is a world-class research and teaching institute, with all initial teacher training programmes are recognised by Ofsted as outstanding.
Our central location in the historic Bloomsbury region means that you are in the heart of London, and our students benefit from all the resources and opportunities that London has to offer. There are over 60 schools and colleges in the Greater London area and beyond participating in the School Direct (Salaried) programme. For secondary training, each of these offers student-teacher places in at least one National Curriculum subject area, and many of them have places across a broad range of subjects.
IOE graduates are highly sought-after in schools and colleges throughout London and the UK. The training our you receive from a participating school in your chosen specialism will enable you to become a skilled and confident teacher.
