Course content

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University and the Universidade Aberta jointly offer a PhD Programme in Medieval Studies, taught via e-learning, with a brief on site component (a week of intensive study). The main objective of this programme is to offer advanced training in the field of Medieval Studies, from a multi and interdisciplinary perspective and learning environment.

Its structure was conceived in order to have the post graduate students:

  1. think critically on the materials and the main questions affecting the field of Medieval Studies, using interdisciplinarity and comparability as the best way to approach the problems;
  2. apply methods, concepts and theories in complex contexts, whether generalistic or specialized;
  3. deepening the mastery of special techniques, tools, methodologies and theoretical background which are the backbone of any advanced practice of research in Medieval Studies.
