The Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM) offers optimal conditions for study and research in a stimulating and comfortable environment and it is a point of reference in the region for the training of both Italian and foreign students.

Centre of excellence for scientific research and teaching, UNIVPM is a "student-oriented" university, focused on an international dimension: it provides all the services and facilities which students may need, with particular attention to the needs of international students.

The University counts about 17,000 students, 545 professors and researchers, and 565 members of technical and administrative staff working on the different campuses. The academic programmes offer 39 degree courses, nine first and second level post-graduate diplomas, four specialisation courses, 33 specialisation schools and nine PhD courses.
We are glad to receive foreign students, because we truly believe that the future of higher education lies in the international experiences.

All the faculties of the Polytechnic University of Marche are located in Ancona, the capital town of Marche region.

Ancona is a town on the central Adriatic coast and it is one of Italy’s most important ports.

It is a town of artistic interest and its historic centre is full of monuments, elegant shops and characteristic meeting places for young people.

For tourists, it offers six kilometres of clean sandy beaches. Not far from Ancona, there are several holiday resorts along the Riviera del Conero which each year are awarded the Blue Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in recognition of the high environmental and quality standards achieved.


Faculties and Departments

Our departments for research and teaching activities are organised into five faculties:

Faculty of Engineering

Department of Construction, Civil Engineering and Architecture
The Department of Construction, Civil Engineering and Architecture provides: two Bachelor’s degrees in Building Engineering and in Civil and Environmental Engineering; two Master’s Degrees in Building Engineering and Civil Engineering; a Single-Cycle Master’s Degree in Building Engineering-Architecture (5 years)

The Information Engineering Department coordinates and supports: the Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering; the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Electronics Engineering, in Informatics and Automation Engineering, in Industrial Management Engineering (the latter at the campus of Fermo); two curricula on Information Sciences of the PhD School.

Through its laboratories and IT facilities it carries out teaching and research activities in the fields of industrial engineering and mathematical sciences. It coordinates the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, the Master’s Degree in Management Engineering and two curricula in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering for the PhD Course of Industrial Engineering

Faculty of Economics

The Department of Economics and Social Sciences (DiSES) provides the Faculty with courses in the fields of economics, statistics and econometrics, economic history and sociology. In addition they provide advanced courses and tutorials for the department's Doctoral Programme Economics (for more detailed information please see Research Doctorate Programmes). DiSES participates also in a Doctorate Programme in Demography and Economics of Large Geographical Areas with administrative seat at the University of Bari.

The Department of Management carries out academic and applied research, teaching and consultancy in the fields of Business Administration and Organisation, Marketing, Management and Corporate Finance. DM runs two Doctorate Programmes: Business, Administration and Business Law


Faculty of Medicine and Surgery

The Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine is an autonomous organisational branch of the university teaching hospital which is dedicated to scientific research and to teaching and education in general. Moreover, it carries out activities outside the university and those related to the field.


Faculty of Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences carries out scientific researches, university teaching and contract works in different research areas reported as follows: agronomy, agricultural engineering and landscape, biochemistry, plant biology and forestry, chemical sciences, tree crops, agricultural genetics, food, industrial, and environmental microbiology, agricultural economic systems, physical sciences, food science and technology, soil sciences, animal production and plant protection.

Faculty of Sciences

Its scientists and professors provides following study courses: two Bachelor’s Degrees in Biological Science and in Environmental Sciences and Civil protection; three Master’s Degrees in Applied and Molecular Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Sustainability and Civil Protection; and a PhD course in Life and Environmental Sciences.

English language support

The University Language Centre (CSAL) is a point of reference for all foreign language studies. Our experienced language teachers will guide you in your preparation for the curricular language tests on your course syllabus. They will also assist you in developing the skills you need to pass internationally recognised language exams.

Each year the Language Centre organises seminars and classes as well as a language consultancy service for English, French, German and Spanish.

The Language Centre also welcomes international students and professors, providing Italian language classes which help our visitors to understand lectures and to get involved in the life of the University. Various courses (beginners, intermediate, advanced) are organised each year in both the first and the second semester to satisfy the students’ different needs.

Student life

UNIVPM has different libraries located in the various faculties:

  • Technical, scientific and biomedical library
  • Economics faculty library
  • Department/institute libraries.

Useful information about these facilities is available through the “Online Library”, where you can also find a database, a catalogue and some periodicals.

Sports and Leisure Time
The University Sports Group (CSU) facilities are open to all students and staff. Most team games, such as basketball, football, volleyball, etc... as well as tennis, kickboxing, are available.

There is also a gym for aerobics, a swimming pool and some agreements for skiing, sailing, and horse riding. So bring your trainers with you, if you would like to take part in these activities during your stay in Ancona!

Students from abroad have the opportunity to exploit:

  • University residences made available by Regional Agency for the Right of the University Stud (ERSU) for the UNIVPM students
  • Residences on private flats with negotiated rents contracts provided by the Municipality of Ancona

Computer Facilities
UNIVPM has IT laboratories where you can find all kind of facilities: computers, Internet connection, printers, plotters and so on. The opening times and student access to these laboratories vary from one faculty to another
