Course content

This specialist postgraduate award aims to prepare individuals to be operationally and strategically effective in the administration and management of international travel and tourism enterprises. It is thus a specialised business management programme, which uses the travel and tourism sector as the focus in studies. In particular, the programme examines local, national and international travel and tourism enterprises and the dynamic environments in which they operate in, with a critical awareness of current issues and new insights in the area of professional practice. A key feature is the use of ‘live consultancy’ projects overseas to apply learning, the funding for which is included in the programme fees.

The programme aims to provide experience and confidence in using theoretical knowledge in practice through a focus on action learning and team-based learning through case studies and live project approaches. In this context, the programme aims to develop critical thinking and reflection skills, challenging students to address and solve, with informed judgement, real-world problems within the increasingly complex travel and tourism arena. In doing so, there is an acknowledgement of the changing environment within which travel and tourism enterprises operate, and the resulting need for the effective management of risk at both an operational and strategic level.

This programme is accredited by the Institute of Hospitality.
