Entry requirements

Candidates must achieve a first or second class Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Physics, engineering or optical science, with significant content in optics, eletromagnetics, quantum physics, materials science. Selection can be made by a combination of academic results, references, relevant work experience, possibly an essay or career plan. In all cases, the course of study for each candidate must be approved by the programme co-ordinator.

Course content

This course aims to provide students with an understanding in the areas of physics and engineering of photonic materials , devices, systems and applications, and to develop the necessay professional skillss for an entry level career in photonics research or industry.

Fees and funding

This course has been approved for funding by Government under a major initiative to meet IT skills needs identifiied by the Expert Group on Future Skills needs. The EU fee for students registering for this in programme in 2009/2010 will pay a reduced annual fee of 2,000 euros
