Entry requirements

The programme is open to the following: Graduates who have had relevant experience in teaching, industry or community work; such other persons as may be deemed suitable by virtue of their training and experience. University College Cork requires all students on the Postgraduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling to undergo garda/police vetting. University College Cork has made arrangements with the GardaĆ­ with regard to Garda Clearance procedures.

Course content

This course is a generic training for Guidance Counsellors. It is designed to produce reflective practitioners who have examined their own personal and professional identity, acquired appropriate theoretical knowledge and developed a range of relevant skills. The ethos of the course is person-centred, i.e. it offers a model of learning which emphasises dialogue as well as content, respect and support as well as challenge.
