Course content

The programme in Biblical Studies is designed to stimulate reflection on the use of the Bible in theology by crossing the conventional disciplinary boundaries between biblical exegesis and systematic theology. Special attention will be given to the issues of canonical criticism, narrative reading, and the use of Scripture in the construction of theological arguments.

Th University of Aberdeen has a long-standing reputation as one of the foremost UK research institutions in Biblical Studies. An MTh in Biblical Studies prepares students for PhD studies or other career options. It offers the students a firm basis for working in the field of Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and New Testament Studies, whether in an academic, religious or other setting. The programme is largely research-oriented and Aberdeen offers internationally recognised experts among its permanent staff in a broad range of sub-disciplines. As an additional benefit, our Divinity School has a large postgraduate community so there are several vibrant postgraduate research seminars open to students and staff.

If you would like to take the MTh in Biblical Studies as a one year (full time) research degree, please see the MTh and MLitt by Research page for more information.
