Summary

Soil Science can open up a range of careers in agricultural consulting, mining, forestry, laboratory analysis, utilities and food production. Aberdeen offers one of the most established centres in Europe in a Soil City. The James Hutton Institute is also located in Aberdeen and specialises in soil research internationally. You gain from training in both soil science and environmental science and you take away:

  • A fundamental understanding of the nature and properties of soil
  • Application of konwledge to real contexts such as food security or sustainability
  • Opportunities to learn from renowned researchers in soil science.

Courses for MSc include: Core Skills in Environmental Science, Global Soil Geography, Soils for Food Security, Applications of GIS, Environmental Analysis, Land Use and Changing Environment on Deesside and your Dissertation. Optional Courses include: Environmental Pollution, Ecosystem Processes, Environmental Impact Assessment, Remediation Technology, Catchment Management, Ecological and Environmental Modelling.

You learn from a mixture of field work, industry experts located in the city and insight into live situations.
