Candidates must be graduates holding a qualification which is recognised for registration by the General Medical Council of the UK.

Course content
Students should have been engaged for at least two years in an appropriate clinical or research setting in one or more hospitals or institutions approved by the appropriate Board of Studies and have completed the majority of the work for the degree during that employment. Students may present a thesis embodying the results of work done mainly while the candidate is employed in the above mentioned setting or they may submit a substantial body of published work or works embodying the results of personal observations or research in some aspect of Medicine.
The final stage of the award is a viva voce examination, in which students are required to defend the thesis to a Board of Examiners.
