Months of entry
This programme is a unique development in the field of golf coaching in seeks to develop you into a high quality coach through learning in a research led environment. Taking the programme will develop your skills and understanding of new developments and theory in coaching and its allied areas and to integrate this knowledge into your own personal practice.
Breakdown of course
The programme consists of 3 taught modules that are taken part-time over one year. The modules are briefly outlined below.
Research Methods and Skills in Sport Coaching
The module will examine different research traditions and provide students with an opportunity to critique existing empirical material. Students will explore key theoretical issues such as interview techniques; designing of quantitative questionnaires; data analysis (both quantitative and qualitative) and the development and completion of ethics forms. Students will also examine the process of data collection; management; interpretation; analysis and presentation through the use of case studies.
Advanced Coaching Theory
In this module students will examine the principles of the reflective practice in coaching and how reflection can take on different forms. Students will be required to reflect upon their own coaching practice and this process will be used to critique the role of pedagogy in coaching practice. The module will introduce students to the holistic nature of coaching. Students will also explore the notion of expertise in coaching and how expertise in developed in both coaching and other domains.
This module introduces students to the concept of player and participant development from a multi-disciplinary standpoint (a bio-psycho-social approach). It analyses and evaluates the role of sports science within coaching and will critique existing models of player development. Students will be expected to critique the current theory and consider their own personal practice in this regard.
Students will engage with the multi-disciplinary nature of coaching and performance and will use player to data to produce an applied development strategy using case studies designed to develop an understanding of the difficulties involved in player development.
Learning and teaching
On this distance learning programme you will learn through an innovative blended delivery using both high quality online resources complemented with face to face discussion time with academics and leaders in the programme fields. You will be encouraged to develop your use of theory in practice, and to reflect upon your own personal coaching philosophy and development in light of new knowledge.
The distinctiveness and knowledge of the coaches graduating from the qualification will place them in the position to be a high performing coach in performance and participatory settings.

You will need to demonstrate you have a good level of written and spoken English with IELTS, TOEFL or alternative qualifications. IELTS: 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band TOEFL: 93 overall: with no less than 22 in Reading, 21 in Listening, 23 in Speaking, 21 in Writing
