For the Mandatory qualification you will also need Qualified Teacher Status. Please note that for enrollment onto this course, Early Years Teaching Status does NOT count as qualified teacher status.

Course content

This distance learning programme supports professionals, to work more effectively with learners who are deafblind (multi-sensory impaired) and for teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent can lead to a the MQ in deafblindness.

The Education of Learners with Multisensory Impairment (Deafblindness) course is the only nationally recruiting course leading to the DfE recognised Mandatory Qualification (MQ) in Deafblindness / Multi-sensory Impairment.

This distance learning programme will enable qualified teachers and others working in education related fields to work more effectively with learners who are deafblind (multi-sensory impaired). While many students on the MSI course are practising teachers working with children, others are from further education, social services, paramedical or medical specialisms, or residential work.

For both the MEd and PGDip Manadatory qualification you will need to complete modules 1-5. For the MEd you will also need to complete the ‘Research Methods’ Module which will prepare you for the completion of the dissertation, whilst for the PGDip plus Mandatory qualification you will need to complete a teaching placement.
