Entry requirements

For the PhD: Applications only accepted from candidates who hold a good Honours Degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject. Candidates need to put forward an academic proposal for the subject area to be considered for the PhD programme. For the MPhil: Applications only accepted from candidates who hold a good Honours Degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject.

Course content

The PhD is the highest academic award of the University. It requires critical investigation and evaluation of an approved topic resulting in an independant and original contribution to knowledge and understanding of research methods appropriate to the chosen field.

Whilst the outcomes of the MPhil are the same as a taught MSc/MA, students achieve it through critical evaluation and investigation of an approved topic and demonstration of an understanding of research methods appropriate to the chosen field.
