Course content

Our Biomedical Sciences MRes provides an advanced understanding of different approaches to research and allows students to develop a critical appreciation of research processes, with extensive training in biomedical research methodology.

Students discover how to design and undertake a substantial research project, working closely with Brighton researchers who are leading the development of novel biomedical products and pioneering new approaches to regenerative medicine, and the treatment of cancer, asthma, diabetes and other chronic diseases. Students will also be attached to one or more of the university's research groups enabling them to work alongside postdoctoral and other postgraduate researchers with shared interests.

This programme develops lab-based skills using specialist research facilities, preparing students for employment in industry or further academic study. The research project provides a real intellectual challenge, allows students to demonstrate their creativity and initiative and to understand the relevance of scientific research to industry.

Areas of study

The core MRes research project module is at the heart of the degree and equips you with a fundamental understanding of the research process across a wide and dynamic range of disciplines. Additional elements of the course provide an integrated, employment-focused, research training programme for students wishing to develop their research skills in biomedical sciences.
