The department is an internationally recognised centre for research and is managed through 5 divisions: Cell Pathology/Histopathology; Genetic Pathology; Immunology; Microbiology and Parasitology; and Virology, each of which has a vigorous research programme.

Human Genetics; Molecular Cytogenetics; Genome Analysis of Parasites; Bacterial Protein Secretion; Leishmaniasis; Arterial Disease; RNA Viruses; Immunity to Human Papilloma Viruses; Autoimmunity in Animal Models.
