Entry requirements

Normally an undergraduate degree majoring in History with a first class honours or high 2.1; USA equivalent is a GPA of 3.7. We are happy to advise on appropriate levels from other systems.

Early Modern History; British and Irish History; Continental European History from c.1500 to c.1720.

Course content

The first term is an intensive training term in research methods and skills. The second and third term are devoted to a substantial piece of original research under close personal supervision.

Information for international students

International students are expected to demonstrate fluent command of the English Language in IELTS (preferably) or TOEFL. The minimum requirement is an overall band score of 7.0 with 7 in speaking, writing and listening and 6.5 in reading. International students account for about two-thirds of the Cambridge History graduate community.

UK and EU applicants/students: AHRC or ESRC studentships; Domestic Research studentships/Millenium Scholarships; (for EU applicants/students only: Gates Cambridge Scholarships); other applicants/students from all other countries: DRS and/or Gates Cambridge Scholarships; admission application by 15 October for Gates and/or CIIS funding; admission application by 31 January for AHRB, ESRC, DRS funding.
