Personality Disorder (Practice Development)

Entry requirements

A recognised British first degree or its equivalent, or a BTEC Higher Diploma / Certificate.

It is also expected that students will be working with individuals identified as experiencing personality disorder.

Course content

Our innovative Personality Disorder programmes shed light on a complex area for the mental health professional. You’ll enhance your understanding and practice and be able to provide leadership in the development and planning of services to benefit users.

The course responds to national policy developments and explores current thinking around personality disorder.

The course is relevant to a range of professionals (i.e. nursing, psychiatry, probation, social work, and occupational therapy) who work with this client group, and will encourage students to challenge their own, and others thinking about this diagnosis.

What you'll do

• You’ll learn about classification and nosology and models and theories of personality disorder as well as explore ideological, ethical, and philosophical issues.
• You'll gain understanding of assessment processes and management as well as studying team working and communication and therapeutic environments and interventions.
• You’ll also be critiquing research and looking at service development and design.
