Entry requirements

A minimum of a lower second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in Arts, Social Science, or Business related disciplines. Applicants able to demonstrate appropriate work-based experience or possessing alternative professional qualifications will be considered on an individual basis. Interviews may be required as part of the admissions process.

Course content

This unique course will be of interest to those of you wishing to work in careers related to, or who have already worked in international business and management contexts. You will learn what it takes to work and manage successfully in an international and intercultural context.

You will explore theories of communication, culture, language and society and their applications in business interactions. The distinctiveness of the programme lies in the focus of the course’s three principal components: emphasis on intercultural and communication theories applied to workrelated contexts in international business; multi-disciplinary pathways with specialist modules; and research training alongside project management skills.

Employability is a major focus on this course. The work placement module gives you the opportunity to work as an intern as part of your programme. Input is given on employability skills including personal branding and using social media, helping students to go on to do the paid or unpaid placement in the country of their choice.

We also give you the opportunity to go on subsidised field trips: previous students have visited Shanghai, Spain and the Czech Republic.

You have to complete a total of 9 modules of which the Dissertation or Work Placement Project are triple modules. 4 modules are taught-core compulsory modules and 2 are option modules.

Four compulsory taught modules are:

  • Theory and Practice in Intercultural Business Communication
  • Organisational Communication
  • Multicultural Marketing
  • Research Methods

In addition you must choose one of the triple modules:

  • The Dissertation or The Work Placement Project (based on a work placement of at least 4 weeks)

In addition to the compulsory modules, you will need to take two option modules which can be selected from any of the pathways listed below:

  • Language and Communication
  • Translation and Interpretation
  • Business and Marketing
  • Tourism
  • Public Relations
