Entry requirements

This award is available for all practitioners in the field of social work or social care and will form part of their employer’s commitment to CPD alongside their own registration requirements with professional regulators.

There is a standard benchmark of a first degree at 2.2 or above in a relevant subject, but non-standard entrants with suitable experience in social care and evidence of recent study will be considered.

Applicants will normally be practitioners in an area of social care or social work.

Course content

In the challenging arena of specialist child care practice it is essential that practitioners have opportunities to develop their learning and education to enhance their skills and knowledge. This course will enable practitioners to develop a comprehensive understanding and application of knowledge related to child care practice, including critical awareness of current issues and new evidence-based practice research. There will be learning opportunities to generate new approaches to safeguarding policy and practice in work with children and young people; and learning opportunities to develop and to enhance decision-making skills in complex safeguarding situations involving children and young people.

This award is a specific pathway for practitioners in social work and social care and aims to build on their professional experience. Practitioners will be able to evidence their learning in each module in order to meet relevant CPD standards or HCPC requirements for renewing their registration.

International applications must have an IELTS score of a minimum of 7.0.
