Entry requirements

Applications are sought from individuals possessing a 2:1 or equivalent classification degree in sport science or related subject area. Candidates not possessing a first degree but with a relevant qualification will be welcomed, following an informal interview.

Course content

This MSc course will interest those students with a previous degree in sports science or related subject, wishing to develop therapeutic skills appropriate to use within a sport and exercise background. It is designed to build upon and synthesise the understanding graduates have in principles of sports science and fitness training, with the addition of therapeutic and rehabilitation skills necessary to become a sports therapist. The course has been developed with the Society of Sports Therapists. Successful completion enables full membership of the society and hence the professional indemnity insurance necessary for practice. The aim of the course is to synthesise therapeutic skills in: sports first aid, soft tissue massage, the early management of injury, exercise and rehabilitation, manual therapy and electrotherapy, with previous sports and exercise knowledge.
