Months of entry
If there is a particular aspect of language and/or literature that you wish to pursue, this is an excellent opportunity. The MRes in English is a cross-discipline course designed to allow you the chance to specialise in literature and/or language in an area in which our academics have expertise.
The Department of English offers expertise in a variety of writers and eras – including in a wide range of literary specialisms and fields of English language – which will facilitate your exploration of your own interests in English study.
Please consider individual profiles in the staff section and make an informal enquiry with a tutor prior to applying.
If you interested in doing MRes-level research in the Department, please contact one of our academics with an appropriate specialism, in the first instance, who would act as your supervisor should you be offered a place.
Why Study English with us?
Our Department of English academics are active researchers in the fields of both creative writing practice (including novels, flash fiction, and memoir), as well as literature, language, theory, and current research methodologies. We also recognise the importance of pastoral support, and offer a supportive environment in which to learn and study.
How will I be taught?
The course will be located on the University of Chester’s Parkgate Road Campus. It will be delivered through lectures, seminars and one-to-one supervision with an academic.
As well as regular supervision between students and academics, the MRes in English will also require substantial independent study.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through written coursework comprising annotated bibliographies, essays, reports, reviews and oral presentations, as well as a final 28,000-word dissertation.
