Entry requirements

You will require:

  • A minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree or similar qualification in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering or a related analytical discipline
  • A2 Mathematics or equivalent.


If you don’t have a relevant degree, we can consider your application if supported by significant industrial experience within appropriate sectors.

Course content

This unique course combines in-depth study of advanced materials with cutting-edge additive manufacturing. Highly flexible and featuring part-time and online study options, it also provides a route for students from non-engineering backgrounds to pursue careers in pioneering areas of materials and manufacturing development.

This distinctive new course has been established in partnership with the University’s Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering (IISE), which supports the growth of advanced manufacturing and engineering companies across the region. It was launched with the backing of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
