Course content

Developed with the Engineering Council as part of the Engineering Gateway programme, this MSc Professional Engineering online degree is a highly flexible, part-time, work-based learning route to obtaining Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. It is recognised by a wide range of engineering institutes such as ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers), IMECHE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers) and IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology) through the Engineering Council.

Obtain an Engineering Masters without taking time off work

The course is available to study part time, through online distance learning meaning you don’t have to take time off work to complete your Masters; It’s designed to give you the flexibility to study at a time and place most suitable for you, while receiving support and guidance from our expert online tutors.

Through the combination of online distance learning and work based learning you can achieve the academic qualifications and professional development required to evidence your registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Mentoring from experienced chartered engineers

You will require mentoring and support from a chartered engineer and will be asked to source an appropriate mentor via your relevant engineering institute or workplace.

There are three phases to this online distance learning course:

[Phase 1: Entry Gateway

Comprising a professional development audit (PDA) of your education, qualifications, experience, and competencies to date, and a reflective summary.

Phase 2: Study Programme (Learning Contract)

This is the individual study programme that matches your PDA against professional body/Engineering Council requirements.

Phase 3: Exit Gateway

This consists of either a reflective summary or an engineering project depending on skills and needs. It also includes a viva voce. Appropriately qualified academic and industrial tutors will work with you and your employer to design a unique programme tailored to your work situation.
