First or 2:1 Class degrees from an engineering or related disciplines, such as design or mathematics. Priority will be given to graduates from backgrounds where going to higher education is not a given, and to groups under-represented in engineering. Students must be UK citizens and be available to work in the UK.
Months of entry
You will study a taught Masters programme at the University of Derby, concentrating on acquiring expertise in solving technical business problems in a range of engineering disciplines.
You will also benefit from a paid, 12 week industrial placement and a paid 12 week research placement at the University's Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering.
You will study the following modules:
- Innovative Solutions (20 credits, compulsory)
Plus two specialist modules (20 credits each) selected from the following disciplines:
- Architectural Engineering
- Civil and Infrastructure Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Intelligent Energy Systems
- Materials Engineering
- Mathematical Modeling
- Mechanical Engineering
- Motorsport Engineering
- Manufacturing and Production Engineering
- Supply Chain Improvement
Students will follow one discipline throughout their MSc programme.Semester 2 (60 credits)
To be completed as an industrial placement at a host company.
- Applied Research Methods (e-learning; 20 credits)
- Engineering Solutions Professional Practice (e-learning; 40 credits)
To be completed within the Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering.
- Independent Studies working on a company project.

This is a fully funded MSc.
The University of Derby has been awarded almost £600,000 by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to help plug a UK gap in vital engineering skills through ‘Postgraduate Support Scheme’ (PSS) funding. This enables us to deliver this exciting new postgraduate MSc free to participants.
