Course content

This pathway in International and Comparative Law is part of the Derby LLM programme. It will assist you to acquire a modern understanding of both international law and comparative law and you will gain, by means of comparison, an appreciation of different systems and schools of legal thought.

This LLM will thoroughly examine the leading issues of modern international law and modern comparative jurisprudence, while at the same time giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge in the specialist areas of international law and comparative law.

You’ll have the flexibility to look at public and private law in more than one jurisdiction, so it’s ideal if you’re aiming to work in international organisations.

We’re one of the few universities in the UK where you can spend time in a professional organisation during the Clinic module to apply what you’re learning. This gives you an opportunity to explore areas of personal interest in greater depth than is usually possible at this level of study.

This pathway aims to develop a unique specialisation that gives you a distinct advantage when applying for positions within and beyond the legal sector.

We can advance your knowledge, if you’re already in employment, in areas relating directly to your work role and career development plans. It will also provide you with a springboard to MPhil or PhD research and a rewarding academic career.
