Both UK and international postgraduate students from a range of disciplines who have completed an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject will be eligible to undertake the programme, if working in an area related to Infection Prevention and Control, Health Protection or Infectious Diseases, or similar.
Months of entry
This programme aims to enable students to understand the microbiological and environmental factors that contribute to the incidence, prevalence, transmission and control of healthcare-associated and communicable infection; to assist students in the development of advanced skills, knowledge and understanding required to function effectively in infection prevention and control practice and enhance patient and public safety; and to empower students to enhance professional leadership, research and practice skills and in order to enable practice development, multi-professional teamwork and collaboration.
The programme is mapped against the Infection Prevention Society Core Professional Competences, which are similar to those developed in other countries.
Modules can be taken in any order (according to the delivery plan) but the suggested progression is:
September Year 1 : Applied Microbiology and Evidence-based Precautions for Infection Prevention and Control;
January Year 1 : Improving Quality and Safety through Infection Prevention and Control, OR Communicable Disease Control;
September Year 2 : Leadership OR Learning, Teaching and Assessment in Practice;
January Year 2 : Developing Research and Evaluation Skills;
Year 3 : Dissertation in a field related to Infection Prevention and Control/Communicable Diseases/Health Protection.
All modules in the programme will be delivered through online distance learning using MyDundee. There is also an online induction, continuing this ethos of accessibility. The School has over a decade of experience in using Blackboard and online assessment as well as other forms of innovative learning and teaching.
