Course content

Based in UEA’s Norwich Business School, this is our most flexible and diverse business Master’s course. There are several benefits to this breadth and flexibility. As well as discovering the intellectual and practical skills of management, you’ll have the chance to explore all the other key functions of business and discover which one's interest you the most. You can either then focus on one area, or you can branch across disciplines, developing your own unique blend of skills. This will help you to stand out in the jobs market and carve out your own unique career path.

Some of the most successful people in business are generalists. They are the people who have a broad understanding of multiple disciplines and can see the bigger picture. They can take insights from one area and apply them to another. They can work better with different teams. And they can see problems and opportunities from different angles, identifying connections that others miss.

On this course you’ll have the opportunity to discover and focus on a specialism, or develop a more holistic, generalist view of business. Either way, you’ll graduate with lots of options, and with the ability to bend and flex within the jobs market and the changing business world. You’ll also learn to understand and explain the role of management in a range of contexts. You’ll learn how to build and sustain a competitive advantage for companies in a variety of sectors, in both domestic and international markets. You’ll discover how to draw on the resources and skills of company-wide specialisms. You’ll find out how to use various analytical tools to understand different managerial perspectives, and how to make sound managerial decisions.

Throughout the course you’ll find a focus on flexibility, personal development and on helping you discover and grow into the business person you aspire to be. As well as having the chance to pick up a broad range of specialist skills, you’ll develop plenty of transferable skills too, becoming highly proficient in teamwork, presenting and time management. You’ll even have the chance to start your own company at our Enterprise Centre. You’ll also have opportunities to identify and hone your skills with extra-curricular activities such as different business clubs and career development events. You don’t need to have studied business before to excel on this Master’s. Equally, you might have already studied or worked in a particular aspect of business but want to diversify your skills and become more multidimensional in your approach. Or you might have studied business in a different country and are looking to get a British perspective. You may have an undergrad degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities, arts, social sciences or business. You might come straight from undergraduate study or have already worked in industry. You might be looking to launch or restart your career, or you might aspire to turbocharge an existing career – we particularly value mature students on this course for the unique insights they bring.
